Classroom Expectations:
Our class is to have a positive environment that is conducive to growth and exploration of ideas. In order to build and maintain such an environment, here are a few guidelines.
1. Show respect to all students and teachers at all times.
2. Get permission before leaving the room. Hall Passes must be used to leave room for restroom, locker, nurse, counselor! If a student abuses this privilege they will lose the privilege!
3. Bring all necessary materials to class. Student not coming prepared will receive an Unprepared.
4. Follow all school rules as outlined in the student handbook. (Examples: Tardy Policy, No Soft Drinks – Water Only, etc.)
5. Keep cell phones off and out of sight.
Technology Expectations:
1. Only windows that we are currently working on should be open on your Chromebooks. This means GAMES, MUSIC, ETC should not be used during class.
2. Since everything you need is accessible via your Chromebook cell phones will not be visible in this classroom. All cell phones need to be put away or left in lockers or dropped at the hotel.
3. The first violation of these offenses will result in the student calling their parent and teacher confiscation of the phone for the remainder of the day. The second violation will result in an office referral and confiscation of the phone for the remainder of the day.
Late Homework Policy TEST
Any test not taken within one week of the date given will be subject to a 100% loss of points.
PAPERS/ESSAYS
Any paper turned in one day late will be subject to a 20% loss of points and 40% any day thereafter.
ASSIGNMENTS
Late assignments can be turned in, but I will not guarantee that I grade it. Honors students are expected to turn in all work on time.
NO late work of any sort will be accepted more than 2 weeks after the due date.
Absences:
ALL work is placed on my website - www.mrsfallert.weebly.com - you can access your work from here or the Google classroom on any given absent day.
Excused Absences
It is the student’s responsibility to get any and all work they have missed! You may take time before or after school or class to record the work that you missed. You have as many days to make up the assignments as the days you were absent. It is not my job to remind you of missing work. It is your job to remember! If you miss a test day, you must make arrangements to stay after school to take the test or make it up during Advisory. If you do miss a test you will have one week from the day you return to make up the test. If you do not make it up within that time you will receive a zero for that test or be given an alternative test for 40% loss of points. (Note – No test will be returned until all tests are given).
If you have pre-assigned work that was due on the day of your excused absence you must turn it in your first day back to receive credit. (Examples: OSS, ISS, or Family Vacation)
Unexcused Absences
This policy will be based on the Jefferson High School Student Handbook. Please refer to this section for a complete description of the school wide policy. Unexcused absences follow the LATE policy! Tests missed due to an unexcused absence can be made up for 40% of the points possible.
If you have an unexcused absence on a day that a pre-assigned essay is due the essay will be due the day you return for 20% off automatically then 40% off thereafter.
Grading:
Student’s grade will consist of
ELA2 & ELA2 Honors
40% Writing – Includes essays, rough drafts, outlines etc.
25% Classroom Assignments – reading worksheets, vocabulary, participation, grammar/mechanics etc.
25% Novel Assignments – Any assignments pertaining to a longer piece of work or novel (could include items from Classroom Assignments)
10% Final/EOC Exam – Final for Fall Semester and a 5% split of Final and EOC for Spring Semester.
Public Speaking
35% Formal Speeches
35% Informal Speeches and discussions
20% Classroom assignments and Participation and Tests
10% Final
Drama
40% Formal Performances - Will include the final
30% Informal Performances
