When finished post your thoughts.
Today's post is really "not" about Episode 11, but it is related to current events. Today (June 30, 2016) a huge announcement in the Adnan case was made. Take a few minutes and read the attached article: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/01/us/serial-adnan-syed-new-trial.html?_r=0
When finished post your thoughts.
In Episode 10 Sarah Koenig touches on the idea that the case was driven by prejudice. However, she isn't sold on this idea that "the cops and prosecutors in this case were driven by anti-Muslim feeling, by racism, and by racism alone. That [she] found very hard to believe. And [she] still do[es'n]t believe that by the way. "
What are your thoughts on this? Do you feel that Adnan was given a fair shake without anyone looking at his culture, heritage, or religion?
Feel free to look into Baltimore history leading up to 1998. Feel free to pull in current events that may bring forth the same stereotypes. Please cite where you got the information. For the sake of this activity simply put the URL at the end of your post where you have pulled information. If you have more than one then simply number them in your post and at the bottom. 1) I would put information from my first site here. Please don't copy and paste; just summarize the information. If you do copy and paste, you need to place the information in quotation marks. If you then explain this information and want to add more, simply add a 2) and give the remaining information.
Pay attention to the sites you are using. There are MANY that will be slanted, and you need to understand "who" you are quoting. If there was a question about history would you rather quote Mrs. Fallert or Mr. Zenker. Don't use Wikipedia! When you get to a site you can Control F and type in certain words that may help narrow your search.
I extended the date on this one because I forgot to post it a few days before the 20th.
For this post I want you to put yourself in Hae Lee's mother's shoes. I know she initially refused to respond to Sarah when Sarah contacted her, but what would or should she say? What would or should Hae's mother want the world to know?
Write as if you are Mrs. Lee and respond to Sarah or her Serial podcast.
I am putting these three episodes together, so after you listen to all three episodes you need to do the following:
By June 14th - Post your personal theory as to what happened to Hae. Be specific and not speculative. Don't use maybe or could have, be exact. Even if it is far-fetched, but it is the only thing that makes sense to you right now, throw it out there.
By June 17th - You will respond to ONE person's "theory" debunking it. Explain what is flawed in their reasoning. Everyone's theory needs to be "debunked", so once you respond to a theory, let someone else be the first response to another peer's. Once someone has debunked a theory, if you want to add information to it you can.
Wow! If you were not feeling confused or overwhelmed before, you should be after listening to this episode. This week's post is an opportunity for you to do one or all of the following:
1) Ask a question for clarification...maybe something you don't understand or thoughts you want from others.
2) Offer a theory of your own as to who is guilty.
3) Rant or complain about the process or frustrating issues with Adnan's case.
The idea is to interact with each other. You don't have to wait for me to respond or answer, if you feel you can offer information to someone else's post or question please provide your insight.
Again please read other's posts, so you are all not asking the same questions or bringing up the same issues.
During this episode we are given a lot of information: a lot of conflicting information. Below I have placed different entries pertaining to this episode. CHOOSE ONE to reply to. Please do not hash out ALL details that relate to that event or person (you need to save some ideas for others). In your post you can explain an issue or discrepancy, explain your take on it - why it is good or bad. Give your thoughts and opinions related to this information. Don't just cite information that correlates...I want to know your thoughts about it.
Your post should be a reply to one of my options, but if you want to expand on someone else's post or note something they forgot or misheard that would be okay for your entry.
You only have to post once this week.
Remember: Read what others post before you post - You need different original thoughts. Spell things correctly and use capital letters!
